Hey everyone sorry about the delay in this episode. We have been traveling a lot over the last few weeks. I was in a car accident and had to have knee surgery, needless to say this put a damper on getting this episode out. I still haven't redone the cast pages to pop up windows but that may come when the season ends.
In Episode 5 " it Doesn't Matter": Callie and Tyler come to am impasse. More secrets about Brian are revealed. Plus Helen helping Sharon comes back to bite her. West Lake Also the series blog has been updated with a music feature about the songs that have been used this season so far. Please enjoy. Hey Kelly,
Read the episode today on the train ride to work. Helen/Sharon -- Things are sure getting tricky quickly. I don't remember Cade finding Garrett ... now we are seeing him in the hospital and ready to be released. It was a great description of Sharon after hearing her hubby on the phone. The white knuckles was awesome. Such a realistic reaction. I'm not sure if she knew Helen was in on it or not, but it seems like a good conflict will arise. Callie/Tyler -- Ouch. Harsh 'break up' of sorts. Callie really didn't show any sympathy at all towards him. No real clues as to how or why ... just "it's over ... i'm busy ... get lost". Seems like something I would do Richard/Marla -- was this the first time we saw the characters? I couldn't remember reading about them in another episode. Still, this was my favorite scene of the episode. The last line just wants me to know what they are hiding about the night of the accident. Great twist. Shane/Ryan -- It was awesome to see Shanes point of view of his relationship with Paige. I believe up to this point it's all been on Paige, so that was a great writing piece. Ryan coming in and he clearly is a man from Paige's past is another twist. I don't like him already ... Paige better watch her back. Nice idea that he is Brian's brother. HIs talk with Brian was interesting too. Great dynamics. Over all another solid episode Kelly. I'm enjoying the series a lot. Great work. d* One Day at a Time: Season 4 Now Airing | Fan Club: Are You a Member? | Fan Contest: Sign up & Rules! | Winner of 6 APA's: Outstanding Series, Leading Female, Younger Male, Younger Female, Villain & Couple! |

Thanks so much for the feedback Dallas!
I write West Lake in real time so to speak so that my of been while this was a bit choppy. A few episodes back Cade got the call from his father and went to Helen for help. I plan on doing a few flashback of 'unaired' scenes so to speak in the next few episodes to clear that up. I am thriled that you enjoyed Helen/Sharon and Sharon's reaction.
Callie doesn't like getting slammed into trees what can I say. Plus I think her and Tyler have a complicated history with her sister essentially killing his sister, so she is having guilt over it. I LOVE writing for them so I hope that you enjoy their ride this season.
This is Marla's first actual appearance in the series with actual dialog. Richard appeared in Episode 2 with the bloody gun in his safe in his office. Twist you say...I say yes of course it is, more to the eye than you think.
I was beyond thrilled to finally write for Shane in a scene when planning this season I really wanted to lay ground work and then branch out so I am thrilled that you enjoyed it. Ryan is not supposed to be likable and the twist that he is Brian's brother was supposed to raise a few flags about his intentions. As for Paige you are right she better start to watch her back about things. Thanks again for your feedback Dallas! It means a lot to me! I as well got the chance to catch up on some reading today, and I had another enjoyable stay in West Lake.
I love how you start each episode out with a quote! I am a total quote whore(Not to be confused with coke whore!), so it's appreciated! I do have to admit the first scene lost me a little. There was a total of 6 characters mentioned in one scene and I will say that it was a bit overhwhelming. Furthermore, the paragraph on Garrett and Cade confused me for a moment- upon first glance, it seems that Garrett left his family for Cade who he was caught with in a seedy motel room! Then I realized that Cade was Garrett's son and I got creeped out even more! I then put the pieces together and realized what was going on, but I will say that there was a need for more clarity in this scene. Now the second scene was one I could really sink my teeth into. I was curious about Callie's relationship with Tyler and why things had gone awry. You did a wonderful job of explaining just that and my curiosoty piqued when they mentioned the accident with Hannah. I'm still quite curious aabout this mystery we have here and you are doing an amazing job at building things up. The dialogue between Richard and Maria was very well-written. It was a little catty, but very enjoyable. Again, there was a lot to digest in the third scene with the constant name dropping, but I feel that the pieces were finally coming together and I was making important connections- which is a very good thing. I think your real talent as a writer shines through in the fifth scene. Things flowed so naturally and you used nice descriptive words that really created an image for myself as a reader. Furthermore, the dialogue was believable and I just felt more engaged as a reader. Bravo on another good effort. It's nice to see West Lake updated regularly and I look forward to the next installment! J. |

Thank you for the feedback J.
To me the first scene made sense and it did to me editor too, though I now know 6 character overload in one scene can be overwhelming and confusing. I also thank you for point out the confusion of the Cade/Garrett connection something that I thought I had established. Callie/Tyler I am really glad you and other's enjoyed their scenes. I think with them being in the position they are in it would extremely difficult to know where to go. Richard/Marla/Jessica was a fun scene for me to write mainly due to Marla being a recurring character. I also wanted to show the dysfunction that Jessica has went through with her parents. The fifth scene was hard for me to write because I wasn't sure how I wanted to introduce Ryan and Shane on the series. I felt that the scene was a bit scattered so this is a huge positive to hear from you. Again thank you for the feedback and hopefully the next episode should be out here pretty shortly in the next few days.
